During the “dog days” of summer, we were planning for Christmas by creating unique and memorable ornaments. It all began more than a year ago with Janell’s idea…Cannonball gourd seeds were purchased and planted (Janell/Mallory/Uncle Raleigh in TN); they grew, were harvested, and dried. Then, the gross cleanup to pop removed the mold, mildew, and top layer of the gourd.
Participants were led by Sandy Rosamond, CAMGA member and local gourd expert, sharing her knowledge and expertise.
There was a small gourd for practice and a large one for a second ornament. After a light sanding, painting with natural sea sponges, and adding some glitz and glamour, it went on to the drying rack and was sprayed with Rustoleum clear gloss.
Of course, we enjoyed a tasty brunch and lots of laughs and fun!
